Below is a list of prolific illustrators. It isn't a comprehensive list, so ask your teacher or librarian about other potential illustrators.

To find secondary sources, use Proquest, which offers access to New Yorker and Kirkus Reviews. You can also search Gale Literature for reviews and criticism. 

Numerous archives collect materials related to children's literature. Search for your illustrator and the word archive to find an archive. A few digital archives include:

Choose an illustrator you remember loving as a kid, or a new-to-you illustrator whose art speaks to you! Make sure they are researchable by doing some digging in Proquest, Gale Literature, and Google.
